The medal count in BlueprintMonday August 18th 2008 |
Yahoo!’s mobile coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in Yahoo! Go 3.0 is built on Blueprint. The Beijing 2008 Widget was released before the games as a countdown app with photos and news, and turned to full-blown sports coverage with the lighting of the Olympic Flame.
For developers as well as sports enthusiasts, this Widget gives a nice example of how different kinds of content can be organized in tables using the Blueprint table control:
The table control allows a straightforward presentation of the medal count right on the Widget homepage. The count on the homepage is limited to three lines, but the user can choose to see an extended medal count in a larger table on a second Widget page.
Each line in this table is clickable and links to a detailed medal view for a specific country.
Besides the smart use of tables, the Beijing Games 2008 Widget has a lot more to offer. The UI shows how to combine text with small images (see the Beijing weather information at the top) and how to design attractive photo galleries.
Be sure to check it out. It’s available in the Widget gallery for the Yahoo! Go 3.0 client software and in the beta version of Yahoo’s new mobile homepage at http://beta.m.yahoo.com.
